Why a neurodivergent marketer made a neurodiversity directory

This week's guest blogger is entrepreneur and marketer Ronnie Cane, founder of The Neurodiversity Directory. Passionate about helping all neurodivergent minds, Ronnie has made it his mission to bridge the gap between the neurodiversity sector's solutions and the neurodivergent individuals that desperately need them. In today's blog, Ronnie gives us a look inside his own mind; more specifically, direct insight into his why behind The Neurodiversity Directory. Outside of The Neurodiversity Directory, Ronnie can be found on his LinkedIn or his website.
Over to Ronnie...
Hi, I’m Ronnie! I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism at 21, but I’ve been navigating the workplace for eight years now.
Like most in the UK, I went through the standard education system-early years, primary, and secondary school-before choosing an apprenticeship in marketing at 16. That’s when I officially entered ‘the workplace.’
I spent five years working before realizing I simply couldn’t keep going in that environment. Fortunately, my diagnosis helped me understand why. Since then, I’ve been successfully self-employed, building a career that actually works for me.
In an ideal world, every child in the education system (which, let’s be honest, is every child) would receive a neurodiversity screening. After all, neurodiversity simply refers to the natural (neurological) differences in how our brains work. A simple screening could help identify whether a child has a Specific Learning Difference (SpLD) early on.
This isn’t a radical idea, nor is it impossible to implement within our already outdated education system. In fact, organisations like the Accessible Learning Foundation are actively campaigning for this and making it happen.
If something like this had been in place when I started school at the grand old age of three, the 18 years leading up to my diagnosis would have looked very different.
Looking back, I probably hit my limit with the education system much earlier, but, well… I made it through.
But let’s fast-forward to today. The two systems I just talked about - education and the workplace - are ones we’re all expected to navigate. They shape our lives, whether we thrive in them or not.
But in 2025 and beyond, we’re entering a new era. Things are shifting. The question is - what’s changing?
Neurodiversity in the workplace
Back when I first entered it, ‘neurodiversity in the workplace’ wasn’t exactly a well-known concept.
But, again, things are changing. Companies like Lexxic are leading the way, helping organisations understand and support neurodivergent employees. They offer workplace assessments, coaching, e-learning, and digital toolkits - bringing real change to businesses that want to do better.
Before launching my own business, I spent years feeling like I was failing in roles that just weren’t designed for me. It wasn’t until I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism - and later found medication that actually helped - that I realised: it wasn’t me. It was the system.
Since then, I’ve worked with other neurodivergent marketers, some diagnosed and some not, and seen the same pattern: immense potential, held back by outdated systems and misunderstanding. The Neurodiversity Directory is part of my answer to that.
So, how does The Neurodiversity Directory work?
My intention was to not spend time wishing things had been different for me and instead use it to help make things different for others. And, that meant combining my skills, knowledge, and resources as a marketer to build what I believe was missing - as that’s what founders do.
What was missing? A central hub, or to put it more jazzily, a digital town square for neurodiversity. In practical terms, that meant creating a digital directory.
And so, The Neurodiversity Directory was born: a place where neurodivergent individuals can easily find the solutions and support available to them in 2025 and beyond.
Were there other neurodiversity directories before this? A few. But they were either paywalled (so, not truly accessible) or just not very useful.
So, here we are: the first-of-its-kind neurodiversity directory that provides direct no-strings access to the web’s most comprehensive collection of current solutions for neurodivergent individuals.
As a neurodivergent-led platform, accessibility isn’t a checkbox - it’s the foundation. We’ve built the site using clean UX, minimal distractions, mobile-first design, and chunked content formats. Every new page we publish is made with Google visibility and human clarity in mind. And because we know ND brains differ, we're continuously testing new ways to present information that honours those differences.
It’s intentionally simple. Anyone can search by keyword, category, or need - and instantly see results from a curated pool of trusted providers. Each listing is vetted, categorised, and structured for easy reading. There’s no paywall or login required to access the core listings, which keeps it accessible by design.
Providers can also request to be added or upgraded to featured placement, and there's a wider ecosystem growing around the site.
How can businesses get involved?
Right now, they can:
● Share the directory with their networks or internal teams
● Encourage service providers they trust to apply for listing
● Explore collaborations around content, training, or workplace tools
● Get in touch directly - we’re always open to honest conversations about impact and innovation
Over time, we plan to roll out a clearer “for business” section - but the best way right now is simply to care enough to reach out.
